October 2018, I spent 3 weeks traveling to the home of my parents’ country: the Philippines. It was a thought provoking and very exciting experience! I learned a lot objectively about my heritage, the political history of the Philippines, and the island life I’ve been missing out on. I also got to meet relatives for the first time. Perhaps the most outstanding realization I made throughout my trip was the distinct feeling that I was not especially Filipino; rather, I am Filipino American and there is a BIG difference in my culture!
